Philosophy & Research

"Textiles are a design space of non-visual material — electromagnetic, sensorial, and infinitely expressive."

Erin Lewis is a Senior Lecturer and Researcher at The Swedish School of Textiles, University of Borås, Sweden. Her research explores design methods and tools, and specifically engages electromagnetic textile design practice through techniques of industrial weaving and knitting — opening up non-visual, intangible material phenomena as an expressive design space.

Her practice bridges academia and art: she develops and lectures the course "AI and Design: Concepts and Methods" at University of Borås, while maintaining an active studio practice exhibited internationally across Canada, the USA, Chile, the UK, Spain, Germany, and beyond — including CES Las Vegas, Eyebeam NYC, and the Ontario Science Centre.
